The object of Word Whomp™ is to make as many words as you can from the six letters in the middle of the screen. Words must have at least 3 letters, and they can't be proper names, abbreviations, or contractions. Make words by clicking the letters in order. For example, if you wish to spell "CAT," click (or type) the letter "C" first; then "A"; and then "T."

When you finish making a word, click the on screen ENTER button or press the "Enter" key. If the word is in the puzzle, the word will appear on the signs at the top of the screen. Spelling words will advance the digging gopher towards the veggies and token bonuses.

As soon as you reach the "Spin" carrot, you'll receive 10, 50, or 100 tokens (depending on the difficulty level), a jackpot spin, and tokens for each additional word you find! If you reach the "Last Word" in this witty word game, you will be rewarded with 200 more tokens!

Jackpot!
If you munch your "Spin" carrot, the Jackpot Spinner will spin as soon as your current word game ends.

If the Jackpot Spinner lands on the word "JACKPOT," you'll win the jackpot amount shown on the left side of the game . The Jackpot gets bigger every second, so the longer you play, the more you can win.

Here are some additional pointers designed to help you become a more advanced Word Whomp player.

All words in the puzzle contain 3 - 6 letters. Proper names and abbreviations don't count.

Skill Level 1 is easiest, so try this level first. When you've mastered the basics, move on to a higher skill level. At the higher skill levels, your potential token bonus is greater.

If you're stumped, click the MIX UP button. When your letters switch places, you can often find words that you may have overlooked. You can click the MIX UP button as often as you wish.

After you reach the "Spin" carrot, longer words will earn you more tokens than shorter words. So always look for 5- and 6-letter words while entering shorter words.

Words are listed alphabetically within each bracket of 3, 4, 5, and 6 letter words. Use this to your advantage as you try to spell the last few words in the game.

At the end of each word game, look closely at the words you didn't find. These words will probably show up in future puzzles

The Word Whomp dictionary does not include every word in the English language - instead, only those words that are in relatively common usage are included.

If there's a "s" in the puzzle, don't forget to add it to as many words as you can to make plurals!

When you are posting here, you're posting to other members like yourself. Programmers won't see your message here.

To communicate with Pogo staff, you'll need to go back to the Help link. CS can forward your comments to the proper department. Alternately, you can send your thoughts to the editor by using your regular email and addressing it to editor@pogo.com

I'm not optimistic a program change will be implemented. The limiter has been a feature for a number of years.

Word Whomp • not recieving proper tokens

By jump006 » August 2nd, 2015, 6:43 pm

Being an accomplished word game player, Word Whomp being one of my favorites, I become frustrated when after acquiring several higher scoring games in a row my tokens awards are being reduced drastically. I recently talked to EA advisor and he concluded, as did I, that there is a limiter placed on higher scoring games to prevent usage of POGO. I understand and am adamant about reporting cheaters but this isn't fair to those of us who are proficient in these games to be penalized for our talents. I am constantly having to change rooms after four or five games in order to receive proper token payouts. I suggest raising the limitation cap to 6800 which should accommodate the fastest players and yet prevent POGO from being utilized. Although I suspect there is the possibility some of these programs can be dialed in to limit exceeding certain scores.
To you Pogo/EA Word Whomp programmers please come up with a solution because we, the players, are not appreciating accomplishing personal records going unrewarded properly.

Word Whomp • Re: suggest words to add to solutions list

Straight from the Oxford Dictionary!

"As past participles of get, got and gotten both date back to Middle English. The form gotten is not used in British English but is very common in North American English. In North American English, got and gotten are not identical in use. Gotten usually implies the process of obtaining something, as in he had gotten us tickets for the show, while got implies the state of possession or ownership, as in I haven’t got any money".

So, while it is in the Oxford Dictionary, it is clearly not a British word.

Ires and ired are my personal pet peeves. It ires me that they aren't included, and, when I am ired I am not so happy...

"Gotten" is also in the Oxford Dictionary. Look for it as a past participle of "get". Both date back to Middle English.

Dictionary.com, actually. And the advertisement that popped up was about French words.

The word of the day is "flumadiddle", in case anyone is interested.

Skratty, as always, you have a wealth of language resources. Thanks for the read.

An interesting article from the Grammarist (a fun site for wordsmiths) -

Got vs. gotten

1. This is a member forum. It's unlikely that a Pogo employee will read your post here. If you wish to communicate with Pogo, go to Help > EA Help > Contact Us.

2. Pogo is not meant for children. From the Terms of Service:

These Terms of Service, as well as EA’s Privacy Policy available at privacy.ea.com (incorporated herein by reference) form legally binding contracts between you and EA. By using EA Services, you affirm that you are at least 18 years of age (or have reached the age of majority if that is not 18 years of age where you live) or that you have reviewed this Agreement with your parent or guardian and he or she assents to these Terms of Service on your behalf and takes full responsibility for your compliance with them. You agree that you and/or your parent or guardian are fully able and competent to enter into the terms, conditions, obligations, representations and responsibilities set forth in these Terms of Service, and to abide and comply with these Terms of Service.

3. Each game has differing vocabulary determined by the people who wrote the game. I doubt that many of the original game writers are still with Pogo/EA to even answer why they may have used certain words and not used other words.

Word Whomp • To Pogo Employees...

I can never find a way to contact team members on a one-on-one basis, so here goes...
I have been playing Word Whomp since 2000 and this morning was the very first time I encountered the word
{removed by moderator}
I'm not a prude, but you do have kids playing this game and you don't allow the word
{removed by moderator} so why would you allow this word? Just curious.

The option for UK English still exists in Word Whomp. Click on the Chat Rooms Tab and look above the list of rooms.
Next to Game Mode, tick the button for UK English.

Different dictionaries were used by the several different programmers when the games were launched. That is why a word may be acceptable in one game but not in another game.
