Spades

Can you succeed against the superstars in online Spades? Pair up with a partner in this four-player online card game of wits. Be the first team to score 500 points by estimating how many tricks you and your partner can take in each round to win.

Practice Before You Play
Play against the computer to improve your Spades skills.

Choose Your Opponent
Test your card game skills against the highest caliber of online Spades players.

Take a Trick
In this card game, each partnership tries to take at least the number of tricks they bid on before Spades play is began.

Bags and Bagging Out
A common feature in Spades is designed to penalize players for underestimating the number of tricks they will take, while at the same time not removing the possible strategy of intentionally taking overtricks, or "bags".

Spades is a card game for 4 players. Players sitting across from each other are partners on the same team. The object of this online card game version of Spades is to be the first team to score 500 points.

At the start of the round, each player is dealt 13 cards. Select 1 card from your hand, and then click on the "Pass" button to pass the card to your partner. You will receive 1 card that your partner has passed to you.

Estimate how many tricks you can take during this round. A trick is a group of 4 cards, 1 card from each player. Your bid and your partner's bid are added together, and this is the number of tricks that your team must take.

Now the play begins. The player to the left of the dealer plays a card.

Card game play continues clockwise. When it is your turn, the blue "Play" prompt will appear above your cards. Double-click on a white card to play it. You must play a card of the same suit as the first card if you can. If you don't have any cards in the suit that was led, you can play any card.

Spades are always trump, meaning that they outrank all other suits. When each player has played a card, the person who played the highest Spade wins these cards for his or her team. This is called winning a trick. If no trump was played, the person who played the highest card in the suit that was led wins the trick. Aces are the highest card.

The player who won the trick now leads a card. Play continues in this manner until all 4 players have played all of their cards.

Here are some additional pointers designed to help you become a more advanced Spades player.

In this online card game, you cannot lead a Spade until Spades have been BROKEN. Spades are broken when someone plays a Spade because they did not have any cards in the suit that was led. Note: If Spades have not been broken, you may lead Spades if you have no other suits in your hand.

You cannot lead a Spade until someone has played a Spade on another trick. The only exception to this rule is if you have no other cards in your hand.

On the first trick, if you cannot follow suit, you can trump the trick with a Spade.

Other potential players in the game room can join your game in progress. This is most useful if a player drops out and you don't want to play with computer players.

Allows host to filter players who join the game to the skill ratings checked below. At least one of the five ratings (Beginner, Intermediate, Advanced, Expert, or Master) must remain checked. This is a great way to play games with people of similar skill level. When this option is unchecked, the game is open to players of all skill ratings.

What browser are you using?

Some of them are blocking Flash which means you have to go to your settings and ALLOW Flash.

As Mod Kyra said, Rated Games cannot be played with the Bots. You need 3 more people to join you. When you set the table do not make it private. In the Lobby let folks know that your looking for 3 others to join you in a Rated Game. Good Luck.

Rated games must be played with all human players and your setting in table options must be checked to allow rated play.

OK CAgirl, I did as you advised and was able to play a 250 point game ... but one drawback the game was unrated so I didn't get credit towards the badge. So how do you play the way you advised and make it a rated game?

You can play the Bots and use your own options. You just cannot do it when you use the Play Robots button.
Find a room and from the Table Options pop up, pick an empty table.
In the Options pop up, click on the Score drop down and select the ending score you want.
Now make your table Private and give it a password.
Click play and the bots will join you at your private table.

Why can we only play 500 point games against robots but to play 250 or 1,000 point games for badges it has to be against people. I am not that good and prefer to play against robots but the point limit means I can not earn badges

Spades • Help on a "rated" badge

By Kirstensmama » September 19th, 2017, 7:02 pm

I need to win one rated 500 point game in Spades. I don't play well enough to play "rated" games but I have to for a badge. If anyone has the patience to help me, I am playing around on POGO every night from 9pm-12am (EST). I would really really appreciate it! :D POGO name: Kirstensmama.

I practiced for about a year with the bots and I usually win. I had a badge to get (win 2 rated 500 games) Thought I was cool and tried to play humans. NOT a good idea. I ticked off quite a few people and they were mean. I did get 1 win but I'm afraid to play another to get my 2nd win. Yes, they are that mean.

We have some members in forums who consistently offer to help people get those rated badges. Try starting a new thread with your request and include your time zone and when you're likely to be online. Chances are some people will agree to help :)

I will not argue with you if you believe that its is fine with me but pay close attention to the game you say the robots overbid what is that do you expect a partner to overbid in the game and cause you to lose? I don't my partner is suppose to be on my side not playing against me.

The bots are programmed to make some pretty dumb plays. Your opponent bots are making silly moves also. You just need to know bot spades is a different game than human spades. I bid nil often with some pretty good hands knowing my opponents are programmed to take every trick. I also try to go set the first round so I can be 100 points down . Then I can bid nil and take the lead the next round. Thats bot spades.

No, you haven't been "targeted". The Bots overbid no matter who is playing them.

Thank you for the feed back I have the experience of the bots not working well with me or maybe I have been targeted by Pogo I think that is not the I hope they do not get mad when you send them emails when have problems I have been playing since 2003 I been a member since 2004 or 05 not sure but I do think the bots have problems and overbidding to me is a big problem. Again thanks for the feed back and so glad you are not having any issues.

I don't either. Learning how the Bots play is no different from learning how a human partner plays. I know that Bot partner will usually over bid, and I will have to make adjustments. I also, know how to set my advanced settings to turn off the penalty for over bidding. I play to have fun and win Badges. I'm not interesting my ratings. I, also, know everyone is different.
