The object of Rainy Day Spider Solitaire is to clear all of the cards from the Foundation. In order to remove cards from the Foundation, they must be arranged in a sequentially suited manner, from King through Ace. Kings are high, and Aces are low - you cannot play a King on any other card, and an Ace may only be played on a two. In the case of an open slot in the Foundation, *any* card (or set of cards) may be used to fill it.

Regardless of difficulty, each game of Rainy Day Spider Solitaire has 104 regular cards and 6 Bonus cards. In order to win the game, 8 sets of cards must be removed from the Foundation. Play begins by moving existing Foundation cards (if possible), and continues by activating Draw piles, typically when no other moves are available (although they can be activated at any time). The game is won once all 8 sets have been removed.

In order to move a card (or set of cards), the first criteria is finding a legal card to play to. Like most Spider Solitaire games, cards may only be played in sequentially order, from High (King) to Low (Ace). Additionally, sets of cards can only be moved if they are sequentially suited - that is, when they range in order from high to low and are of the same suit. Sequentially suited cards may be played onto cards of a different suit, but only the sequentially suited cards will be able to be moved as a group.

Rainy Day Spider Solitaire - varying degrees of difficulty:
  • Easy - only one suit is used; you will find that many moves are possible, and a very high percentage of games are winnable
  • Normal - two suits are used; you will have to be more careful about mixing suits, as stacks of non-matching suit are difficult to maneuver
  • Hard - four suits are used; even expert Spider players will have difficulty completing games, but it can be done!

Here are some additional pointers designed to help you become a more advanced Rainy Day Spider Solitaire player.

There are times when mixing suits is necessary for success. However, try not to let stacks with mixed suits get too long - they can become very unruly. The Free Column can be a good tool to free yourself if you get stuck.

Unlike other Spider Solitaire games, you are not required to play a King at the top of each Free Column. Any card (or set of cards) can be played on a free column.

If you're faced with two choices, such as moving a card from two different foundation piles, try both to see which will be the most useful. You can always Undo the first move to try the second one. Also, remember to take note of whichever result you don't go with - it could come in handy later on.

NEVER play an Ace at the top of the 11th Free Column! The only time this is acceptable is if you can find a home for it right after you move it or if you are entirely out of other moves - otherwise, you won't be able to play anything else onto that Free Column until you find a new home for it.

The Free Cells are a great place to store cards that are getting in your way, especially Aces or any card that appears on the foundation more than 3 or 4 times.

If you have to choose between two cards to move from the Foundation, it's usually best to choose whichever one gets you closer to the bottom of the Foundation. The more Free Columns available to you, the more freedom you have to move more cards.

You'll need to reload the challenge page before it updates. An easy way is to click on a different tab, then back the the challenge tab.

I have won on the hard level with the help of all the tips. Thank you. Started the day with 7 wins,. have been playing for hours and won 2 more games. But, I just noticed that I have not been credited for the 2 wins in the challenge box. it still shows 7 of 12. The chat box says ... "won 9 of 12 games on hard difficulty toward earning the Web Decorator Hard Badge". What should I do to get credit for wins? Please help Really want to finish this badge. Thank you.

The game hasn't changed since the original post was made. I'm not sure how updating tips would make a difference.

You might not play for badges but many others do. It's no more cheating to end an unwinnable game early than it is to play to the unwinnable end and I would imagine that folks who DO like badges but don't have endless amounts of time to play appreciate the tips. It's also not kind (nor permitted on forums) to point fingers in an accusatory fashion. You may want to review the forums guidelines prior to posting.

I'm baffled about the money grabbing aspect. It's not like you can pay to make the cards show up "just so" for the win. There are no powerups you can buy to make the game easier to win. There's a lot of other games that use powerups for sale but not this one. Badges don't increase one's chance of winning. And they are entirely optional.

The basic structure of the game dictates whether there is a win or not. The structure is as random as a computer program can be. Each hand has the same "fighting chance" as the next.

Although these 'tips' can probably win the game, they seem more like 'cheating' the game if you just quit and start over until the cards show what you want.

also, why haven't these 'tips' been updated into 2017? did i miss something in the searches that would have led me to this post?

i don't play the game for badges. i do, however, play the games to challenge myself, but i'm not going to pay to make progress on a game. that seems like cheating to me and a money grab from pogo.

i don't expect to win every time. i do expect to have a fighting chance.

You may vent all you want (within reason and in accordance with forum rules). I am simply pointing out that the challenge will not be changed.

To call these exclusive challenges optional is a somewhat misleading technicality since you don't actually get to choose which ones you want to play. You pay for the privilege with 14 gems, then spin for pot luck. Reading most of these comments, I doubt that many would have willingly paid 14 gems if they were given the right of refusal when the spin stopped on this one. But, since we do not have that option, you "MOD's" and Incognito's shouldn't take umbrage when we decide to vent. Since, we are stuck with this challenge as is, let's hope that no more cringeworthy challenges are forthcoming. There are always 1 or 2 challenges each month that we "hope not to get" when spinning. Maybe Pogo should give us a "refusal" button.

They won't change it this far past the release date, especially on an optional (non-weekly) badge. I agree that winning on Hard is largely the luck of the deal, but it can be done. Those threads linked above may help.

I think there is some confusion over use of the word "deal" instead of "draw". You can always get a new deal, but, you cannot "undo" a draw. I knew this was going to be a hard badge to get, which is why I waited to activate it until I had finished all other M&M challenges. The concept of using the number 12 as the bogie on Easy, Medium, and Hard was not well thought out. Perhaps "12" was easily obtainable on Easy, and challenging on Medium, but, the Hard level requires a lot of luck and persistence regardless of whatever tips you care to provide. Just so you know, the two spaces at bottom only show up when you draw or uncover them, so, they are iffy. Pogo is meant to be entertainment, not an occupation. I have won 6 games on hard so far, but, it has not been fun, it has been work!!! FYI....I know it is possible for Pogo to change the targeted goal when they realize they goofed. They did it before on the Quick, Quack game...why not, now?

Undo is still working. You need to play at least one move before it shows as active.

New Deal is just to the left of the Undo button.

There has always been a free column at the far right of the layout. There are also the two spaces at the bottom.

If you look through this forum, you'll find some threads with tips for winning on hard level. Here's one such thread:

In 2012 Pogo offered this Badge:
Web the Window
Mix-n-Match Challenge 21 days 0 hours
Win 18 games in HARD difficulty level in 3 weeks!

Completed 1 Time
Set this Badge as my Chat icon

Reactivate to Earn 1000 tokens.

Despite all the complaints, the Badge was not removed.
And,I've never been able to "undo" a deal in all the years I've been playing. Maybe back when it was Java it had that feature.

I am having the same problem. Have tried over and over again and have been unable to win this badge. It is very frustration -
not only did I have to use gems (in which I purchased) and find it impossible to win this game. I like a challenge but not one
that is impossible to win - and no less 12 games. I really believe this should be removed and replaced with something that all
Pogo players can accomplish.
