Match Tiles via Connecting Line
In the Mahjong Safari puzzle game, your goal is to match tiles with a connecting line that has two or fewer turns. The farther apart the tiles, the higher your score. For the highest possible score, create combos by matching tiles quickly one after another.

Look for Special Tiles
  • Four Stars - There are four, special Star tiles in each puzzle game. Match those to earn one of the three power ups available in Mahjong Safari.
  • Mini-Animals - These are the only tiles that don't have identical matches. Match the two halves of the same animal to earn a mini-animal on the left side of the screen. Collect ten and you win a spin.

3 Unique Power Ups to Earn
  • Shuffle Power Up - The Shuffle Power Up allows you to mix up all the tiles when you get stuck.
  • Long Line Power Up - The Long Line Power Up allows you to match two tiles with more than two turns.
  • Hint Power Up - Earn the Hint Power Up and get a hint about an available match.

Track Your Progress
In the lower left part of the screen, you will notice two numbers:
  • Tiles
  • Available Matches
These are useful to notice throughout the game so you can track your progress and know how many matches are available.

There are lots of ways to earn tokens in Mahjong Safari! Here are some tips to keep in mind:

The higher your Score, the more tokens you earn in this puzzle game. For every 100 points, you earn 1 token. Get a high score by matching tiles that are long distances away, and by making long Combos.

The higher your Score, the more tokens you earn. For every 100 points, you earn 1 token.

100 Points
=
1 Token

At the end of each successful puzzle game, you get a game complete bonus. Harder difficulties award more tokens since they take longer to complete.

If you complete a game and still have some powerups left over, you'll earn 10 bonus tokens per powerup.

At the end of a successful game that you completed quickly, you earn a Time Bonus.

During the puzzle game, if you make an animal-specific combo, you'll earn an extra 30 tokens per animal combo. For instance, match two pandas, then quickly match two pandas again, and you'll earn a Panda combo.

If you complete a safari by collecting 10-mini animals, you'll get a bonus of 100 tokens (and Pogo will give 100 tokens to someone else in the room.) Those tokens are awarded instantly, not at the end of the game! You will also win a spin, which may award some tokens.

If you're playing in a room with other people, when they complete a safari, you will once in a while get a bonus gift of 100 tokens for their efforts! Those tokens are awarded instantly, not at the end of the game! In most cases, only active players will receive gifts, so staying in a room without playing won't earn you tokens.

my high is over 11,000
you get 100 for giving
and 100 for receiving and
more for combos

a bit for time
the thing is play on hard
as you have been told
its easier on hard
because your goal is to match animals
without any animal in between

and THERE ARE MORE ANIMALS IN HARD
FOUR OF THEM
..
choose your own tiles
i had many that were blue and they looked the same..so
years ago i choose big yellow angel fish and brown monkey with arms up
and others
easier to see.
check if the match will match another before you hit
and the
biggest hint of all

HIT NEW GAME
there is no penalty for hitting new game

Mahjong Safari • Re: Giving thanks in Mahjong Safari

By Kat1969 » June 25th, 2017, 2:59 pm

I say thank you because it's the polite thing to do. I will continue to do so.
I am fully aware that I received the tokens from Pogo.

I do say thank you most of the time and here's why.

It takes a completed safari in order for the tokens to be awarded. That player put in a lot of effort to complete the safari.

If the person who completed that safari wasn't there, I wouldn't have received the gift.

Even if the gift is randomly selected I am thankful because the gift could have gone to someone else.
So I am thankful for the player who completed the safari, which triggered the computer to award the gift, and selected me in the process.

Also, many people have been playing on Pogo since Pogo first started way back when. It has become a tradition, so to speak, to thank the player when you receive a gift.

Similar "traditions" are found in other games as well.
If you get the Fire Card in Lottso, other players reply by saying "Step on it."
Players also thank others when they receive the Charity Card in Lottso.

Some traditions are also habits and they make games fun such as when players say NT if someone scores a Turkey in Pogo Bowl, or ss (so sorry) if someone gets a 7-10 split.

Anyway, these are just traditions that started way back when but it's always a player's choice to say thank you or not to say thank you.

It certainly is not a requirement and other players should never chastise someone else for NOT saying thank you.

It's nice to find that I'm not alone in feeling this way. It's not like in Addiction Solitaire where you actually pick the person getting the reward bonus. I think Yahtzee Party does it too.
And, I've had folks actually call me out in Chat because I don't say "you're welcome". Thank Pogo. Not me. They weren't my tokens and I didn't choose you.

I also thank you very much for posting this. I don't want to be thanked for something I had no control over nor do I want to keep posting thank yous while I am playing.

I just wanted to say Thank You personally to the Pogo computer for randomly picking me, out of everyone else in the room, to award tokens to on behalf of so-and-so who had absolutely nothing to do with picking me at all. I do want to apologize for not saying my thanks sooner... I was not trying to be intentionally rude by not saying anything to you in chat, I simply was busy doing other things at the same time I was playing, so I had to pause my game a few times and didn't see the award until after I finished the round.

I wanted to thank you personally, because it appears that there are some players (on whose behalf you award the tokens for) who seem to think that they deserve credit for giving the award when it is you, Pogo computer, who truly deserves the thanks.

I hope you have a great evening and again, thanks for the tokens.

I absolutely love this post!!!!
It is so true
I don't understand why people thank the player It's not them!!!! It's the computer
sometimes you are playing in a full room and it's thank you a million times
I just have to switch rooms

anyway thanks for the smile

Mahjong Safari • Re: Helpful Levels

By CAGal1950 » June 19th, 2017, 8:24 pm

You get all 3 Power Ups when you match 2 Power Up tiles together. You have 2 sets of 3 Power Ups in each game.
A power up will not appear unless you have run out of moves. Then it is either the Shuffle or the Extra Long line. You can select what you want to do.
In all the years I've played this game, the only puzzle's I've had to use Power Ups on are the Whale and the SemiTruck. Both Hard puzzles.
I've played 6,586 games, mostly on Hard, since Pogo introduced it in March 2008. And, have Ranked out twice. (added 10 more when it was the Game of the Month last year).
Now when it comes to Badges, I can choose to play on Easy if it means winning without using Power Ups. Or, I can play on Hard if it means getting JPS or Gifting.

If you are playing on the hardest level of difficulty, the boards you want to be playing are the Spiral, the "S", the Crossroads and the Lightbulb. Those are the patterns that give you the most open space in which to make matches.

gl!

I have been playing Safari for 15+ years, always on hard level (it's tied with WW as my fave game), and do not recall winning a game without a powerup popping up to be played (mostly shuffle). I don't pick the powerups, the game seems to throw them at me ;-) I believe I can select to not use the suggested powerup, yes? But that would mean I'd probably never win another game, much less 28(?) of them! lol And I really don't want to continually scroll through boards to get the 3-4 shapes that I might not need to use a power up for - I play them in the order they show up (again, I don't think I ever have NOT accepted a powerup). Oh, well, there's one badge I won't be getting. Happy Pogo-ing all!

What difficulty level are you playing on? I play on Hard difficulty level and always score over 7000.

Try increasing your difficulty level to see if you can score higher.

You can be in a room by yourself and still get credit for giving gift to yourself. I found that out when all the players left the room I was in and I didn't notice right away. When it says you got a "gift of 100 tokens from pogo", that counts as if someone else gave it to you.

my suggestion would be to have someone you know play with just you two in the room and you will be only one who can get the gift
