Euchre is a card game for 4 players. Players sitting across from each other are partners on the same team. The object of Euchre is to be the first team to score 11 points.

At the start of each round, each player is dealt five cards. Another card is turned face up. Each player in turn is given the opportunity either to order up this card to the dealer or to pass. If a player chooses to order it up, the dealer receives it and discards another. This suit becomes trump for this round. The trump suit beats all other suits.

If all four players pass, each in turn has an opportunity to make another suit trump. If all four players pass again, new cards are dealt.

Now the play begins. The player to the left of the dealer plays a card.

Play continues clockwise. When it is your turn, the blue "Play" prompt will appear above your cards. Double-click on a white card to play it. You must play a card of the same suit as the first card if you can.

If you don't have any cards in the suit that was led, you can play any card, including trump.

When each player has played a card, the person who played the highest trump card wins these cards for his or her team. This is called winning a trick. If no trump was played, the person who played the highest card in the suit that was led wins the trick. (The computer keeps track of this automatically.)

The player who won the trick now leads a card. Play continues in this manner until all 4 players have played all of their cards.

Complete Game Guide

If you'd like to learn more about how to play this game, please read the Complete Game Guide.

Here are some tips and tricks to to be the first team to score 11 points!

The highest trump card is the Jack in that suit. The second-highest trump card is the other Jack in the suit of the same color. Thus, if spades is trump, the Jack of Spades is the highest and the Jack of Clubs is the second highest. The remaining cards are ranked Ace through 9.

In Euchre, the ranking of trump cards is different from that in Spades or Bridge. If the trump suit is Hearts, the trump cards are, from highest to lowest: Jack of Hearts (the Right Bower), Jack of Diamonds (the Left Bower), Ace of Hearts, King of Hearts, Queen of Hearts, 10 of Hearts, and 9 of Hearts.

If the Makers both play, scoring is as follows: If they win 3 or 4 tricks, they get 1 point. If they win all 5 tricks, they get 2 points. If they take fewer than 3 tricks, they are euchred and the defenders score 2 points.

If a Trump Maker is going alone and wins all 5 tricks, the team gets 4 points instead of 2. Otherwise, scoring is as above.

Games can be set to a higher or lower point total when initially created through the Options button.

In Euchre, rating points are calculated in the following manner:
- The average rating of the winning team is calculated.
- The average rating of the losing team is calculated.
- The losing team's average is subtracted from that of the winning team.
- Scores are adjusted in accordance with the ratings' chart, as shown below.

Rated games where the difference between opponents ratings is greater than 600 will not affect the players ratings. This is to prevent more experienced player from taking advantage of new players.

When you arrive at an empty table and start a new game, you can set a number of options before launching the game by clicking the Options button just above the game table. Default options - that is, the options that are set automatically unless you specifically change them - are in [brackets].

By Pogo_Cactuar » April 23rd, 2014, 3:38 pm

We are aware that a number of users are seeing incorrect renewal dates displaying on their My Account pages. Some users that are on an annual subscription and were recently billed are showing that their next billing date will be in May 2014 which is incorrect. We are correcting this issue and it should reflect on your My Account page shortly. You should be billed during the correct billing cycle related to your individual account.

Both of these issues should now be resolved and you should be able to play previously purchased episodes in our Hidden Object Games as well as purchase more.

For those players questioning about the sale in Amazing Adventures today (4/22) the sale is currently on until 4/22 11:59pm PDT, so you should still be able to participate.

Euchre • [RESOLVED] Purchased items showing as unpurchased

By Pogo_Cactuar » April 22nd, 2014, 7:50 pm

Our team is aware of some users seeing purchased items showing as being un-purchased in some areas, such as our Hidden Object Games. As well as when you attempt to purchase something for Gems, you may be receiving a message that states you do not have Gems when you really do. The team is currently investigating this issue and is working on a solution for it.

We recommend for the time being that you do not attempt to purchase the item for a second time.

Our team is working to have the issue resolved soon.

Euchre • Re: so called free euchre

I also just played a complete game of Euchre and did not have any ad interruptions. The only ad I saw was while I waiting for the game to start. The next ad I saw was when the entire game (11 points) ended.

If you are seeing ads during the game then see the thread linked below:

Ok is definitely something with your computer, most probably malware or something.
I just played, well still on it, a game of Euchre using a free account, I'm playing against the bots and set the table for 11 points, game is now 8 - 7 (my team is losing lol) and I haven't had any single intermission or pop-up or anything.

The only thing I see is adds around my table, I think they change from time to time, but I just ignore them , they don't interfere with my game at all (you can even make your window smaller and manually adjust it to hide these ads)

Edited to add: Ok game is over and as I said I didn't have any add. But as soon as the game was over the ad intermission started, 40 seconds.
Not sure if this has something to do with it but my game was not rated, was playing only bots and by the way, I won and I have to say I hardly know how to play Euchre (6 years ago I didn't even know of this game) but I think I was playing beginner and bots are for the most quite dumb, maybe this is why I won lol.

Check your computer ;)

Well things have changed since I was a free member 5-6 years ago and I never played Euchre as a free member but I don't think you should get a pop-up every click.
Yes, you get ads intermissions every now and then, usually after one or 2 hands played, but definitely not with every single click.
Probably you have some malware making that many pop-ups to show. You don't lose anything testing your computer for malware.
Maybe one of the Mods have the link to that post with all the info about malware and how to get rid of it and can put it in here.

Free members "pay" by viewing ads. Those ads allow you to play the games for free. The only way to not have ads is to purchase a Club membership.

Euchre • so called free euchre

By taipan48au » April 21st, 2014, 8:41 am

I have come to pogo after 15 years in yahoo ( free and no adverts) and now I am being asked to pay ? For what ?
I had a ratting inyahoo of 2580 . In pogo it seems that unless you pay , it is very difficult to win . I now have 14 losses on the run ? I have been playing euchre for over 55years .Whilst I understand the need to generate income , but to have aa advert every time I make a click an add pops up and I have to wait 30 plus seconds . Maybe one add but why so many .
You promote free euchre . I would hardly call it free . My time is just as valuable as yours .........
Very very disappointed convert to pogo >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

Euchre • [GLOBAL] Heartbleed Vulnerability Issue

By Pogo_Cactuar » April 11th, 2014, 3:26 pm

As you may be aware, a website vulnerability named the Heartbleed Bug has been all over the news as of Monday, April 7th, 2014.

As soon as we became aware of Heartbleed, we began actively identifying and patching any vulnerable systems to ensure Pogo.com is secure. We have no reason to believe any passwords or personal information were stolen, but suggest erring on the side of caution and updating your Pogo password.

Euchre • Re: euchre tables

By Mod_Jada » April 7th, 2014, 12:25 am

All the tables are visible to me when I go to the Euchre game.
Have you cleared your browser's cache, history, temp files, and cookies lately? When you do, make sure "Preserve Favorite Website Data' is left unchecked.
Have you tried playing in one of the free game rooms? That might help.
Have you tried playing under a different tab? (ex: Social, Beginner, etc.)
Have you tried a different browser to see if you have better results?
Also make sure your browser's zoom is set to 100 percent. See the thread linked below:

Euchre • Re: how do i join a game

By Mod_Jada » April 4th, 2014, 9:26 am

You have to look above that list and go to one of the tables. Also, look over at the left side and you will see Legend. That will show you the different icons and what they mean ( rated game, private game etc.) As you scroll through the tables they will show one of those icons so you can know what kind of game it is. For instance, if it is a private game you wouldn't be able to join without knowing the password.
You can choose an empty table and wait for other people to join or you can just play with the robot.

Thanks. However I still can't join a game in the lounges(???)... ie. when I click on Social Lounge it lists the people hosting the tables but when I click on one it won't take me into that game. I'm still confused!! :)

Euchre • Re: how do i join a game

By Mod_Jada » April 2nd, 2014, 9:10 am

There are several ways to do this.
Click on Find A Game on the upper right of your homepage. Go to the Euchre game and look underneath the game. You will see chat rooms. You will also see the different room types, such as Beginner, Intermediate, Advanced etc. Choose the room you want and then look for a table to join.
You can also set up your own table by clicking on an empty green table. You will then see options to customize your game and you can allow people to join or you can play with the robots.
You can also make your table private by clicking on "Make Table Private" and giving it a password.

You can also click on the yellow box on the game that says Play People. That would put you into an existing game. If you click on Play Robots, you will only be able to play with the robots but you will not be able to change the game options. The only way to change the game options (customize your game) is to choose a room from the chat room list, and then choose an empty table.
